Stephen King praised Gardiner on his website in December and interest in her work has been growing ever since. He then wrote extensively about Gardiner again in his Entertainment Weekly column published on February 9 where he said he was staggered that she was not published in the US. 'I mean, this woman is as good as Michael Connelly and far better than Janet Evanovich', wrote King, who advises readers to start with China Lake - Gardiner’s first book in her Evan Delaney series.
The book is not an ex library book, it has no remainder marks or publisher's stamps.
Evan Delaney is a heroine of our times: a woman with a big heart, a quick tongue and a hot temper that gets her into trouble. She is shocked to discover that Tabitha, her ex-sister-in-law, has joined The Remnant - the Reverend Pete Wyoming's fanatical band of disciples. And that Tabitha is trying to regain custody of her six-year-old son, Luke, currently in Evan's care while his father is posted to the Naval Air Warfare Center. Then one of the Remnant is killed, and Evan's brother is the prime suspect. With her boyfriend, lawyer Jesse Blackburn, Evan tries to clear her brother's name and rescue her nephew. In doing so, she finds herself caught up in a wild plan to steal weapon, and a blazing inferno on a Santa Barbara hillside.

Meg Gardiner was born in Oklahoma and raised in Santa Barbara, California. After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in Economics, she went on to attend Stanford Law School and to practise law in Los Angeles. Later she taught in the Writing Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She lives in Surrey with her husband and three children.
